Marcus had always been a sort of man — the kind who believed love existed somewhere beyond the mortal plane, shimmering just out of reach. His friends called him dramatic. He called himself a devoted to the pursuit of a beauty so rare it could only be found in the clouds above. When the new app promised matches from the realm, he downloaded it without a second thought.
A guide appeared on his screen, small and , yet somehow radiating an air of divine authority as it pointed insistently at a portrait held aloft in gilded hands. The woman in the frame wore a Baroque ruff collar, pearl earrings, and an expression of serene, almost elegance — as if she had long since grown accustomed to being admired by mortals who could never quite reach her.
